Why don’t most employers and employees protect themselves with a disability policy designed to replace their income when they get sick or hurt? Why don’t people protect themselves financially? Is it the cost? Is it because people believe it will only happen to someone else and not them? Why didn’t the chef, who was covered by a disability policy, understand his available options? Whatever the reasons may be, disability insurance has never been very successful in this country because people are not educated on who should have it, where to get it, when to use it, and how it may benefit them.
Okay, let’s not beat around the bush and get right into it. Healthcare Reform, what does it mean? It means insurance reform. It means access to care for 30 million uninsured Americans. It means greater government control and regulation over the industry. It means that people will be required to purchase insurance coverage for themselves or pay a fine.

"the daily pain, confusion, and frustration I see in business people when they have to discuss healthcare related issues. I can’t help seeing changes happening so quickly in the healthcare industry, which is causing employers to have a “deer in the headlights” reaction to these changes. I feel I may be able to help put these dynamics into a reasonable perspective so that business people can understand how these changes will affect the healthcare industry from a high level (i.e. the reason for the “10,000 Feet” in the title) and how the changes may affect their business every week (again the reason for the “Below” in the title). Lately, it seems like there has been a ton of attention surrounding the purchasing of auto insurance online- -especially here in Massachusetts since the arrival of “managed competition,” or the arrival of online insurance companies. Flo and the Geico Lizard are characters in brilliant marketing campaigns and tap into something that is important to most of us- -saving money $$$. Who wouldn’t want to save a ton of money on their auto insurance, plus you can do it while eating ice cream on the couch late at night in your PJs while surfing the interwebs- -super convenient right? I came across an executive summary of a white paper put out by comscore.com and one of the questions in their March 2010, 80 question survey of 2000 US online consumers was, “What is most important to you when purchasing auto insurance?” A full 49% of the responders answered that “Price” was the most important factor. Make sense right? Both Flo and the Lizard agree you’ll get a great deal!
